Building Bicycle Storage Shed

Bicycles are a great way to get around, but having too many in a small space can be a storage disaster. Fortunately, there is a simple and inexpensive solution: vertical bicycle storage shed. They mess easily, overturn, get the wheels on one caught in the spokes of another, and pretty soon you are ready to leave them all in the rain just to avoid the mess.

Locate the studs on a wall. Bicycle shed rack will hang bikes vertically from the wall, so you will need to drill into something firm. Studs are usually placed 16 inches apart, but this can vary in older houses. When you find the sliders, mark them with a pen. Measure the width of the wall with a tape measure. You need at least 2 feet of horizontal space for each bike you are not going to use, plus an extra 6 inches from each wall.

Cut your two by 4. Once you have determined how many bikes you want to save, cut your two out of four to the correct length (2 feet for each cycle). Insert the hooks. Unscrew the hooks until they are secure. If you can’t find hooks with a rubber coating, try wrapping materials from an old deck or inner tube around each. If you do not, the metal hook can damage the edge of your bike. Attach rack to wall. Have a friend hold the bicycle storage rack up against the wall at a height of 65 inches and drill two pilot holes through 2 with 4 and into the wall of each bolt. The holes should be one inch apart vertically.
